Dobbies Garden Centres has launched ‘Feed the Birds’ which will see the retailer give away over £6000 to help feed the birds throughout the UK this winter. Feed the Birds is part of Dobbies community campaign Here We Grow, which gives support, equipment and assistance to the local community in Peterborough to get growing or help care for wildlife through gardening. Dobbies in Peterborough wants to hear from local community groups, projects, schools and charities who would like help to care for the birds that visit their garden. Community champion for Dobbies Garden World Peterborough, Mandy Wright said: “Encouraging wildlife into the garden is a fun, rewarding activity. A wildlife garden can provide the ideal setting for a tranquil sanctuary which will help bring you closer to nature. Bird feeding plays an important part in maintaining a happy ecological equilibrium in a garden environment. Supporting birds throughout winter helps them to survive severe weather and be in good condition to breed successfully in spring.” If you would like to put your group forward for consideration contact Mandy at herewegrowpeterborough@dobbies.com or for more information, please visit www.dobbies.com 04/02/2012 |

The Hampton Wildlife photo gallery has been updated with some wonderful pictures kindly supplied by Hampton resident Paul Hanks who wishes to stimulate interest in and hopefully respect for the natural environment around the Hamptons. All his pictures are taken in either Hampton Hargate/Vale or from the Green Wheel alongside Haddon Lake. With some of the less desirable aspects of Hampton being discussed in the news and forum of late, it is all too easy to forget the wonderful natural environment we have on our doorstep. Let's enjoy and respect it. 09/07/2011 |

The Safer Peterborough Partnership is looking for volunteers to take part in SpeedWatch. Speedwatch allows the public to get actively involved in monitoring the speeds of vehicles travelling through their neighbourhood. The scheme is run by Cambridgeshire Constabulary alongside the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership.
All volunteers are given full training to use speed indicator devices and provided with safety equipment. The registered owner of any vehicle seen exceeding the speed limit is sent an advisory letter from their local neighbourhood policing team, explaining that speeding is unacceptable in the local community.
Speedwatch is not an enforcement tool but about educating motorists and raising awareness of the dangers speeding. The scheme is just one part of the ongoing work being carried out to target speeding.
If you are interested in becoming a Speedwatch volunteer, please phone the council on 01733 747474 and ask for the Neighbourhood Officer for the area you live in or the Road Safety Team. 23/11/2010
