Neighbourhood Policing
Neighbourhood policing is about putting the community at the heart of everything we do. Our neighbourhood policing team want to be a part of our community.

Each month Sector Inspector Matt Snow will be writing a monthly column. We also have a team section for you to identify your local team members.  The team are doing their best to make sure they have an active role in our community by providing this information, holding police surgeries, attending community events and promoting e-cops to all of us.

We also need to do our bit as residents of Hampton and keep the team updated and make them feel part of our community.  A quick smile and a little chat goes a long way towards building the community we all want.

Non-Emergency Number

101 is now the number to call when you want to contact your local police - when it’s less urgent than a 999 call.

101 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To determine when to call 101 or 999,

Crimestoppers – the independent charity

Crimestoppers is an independent charity which helps to find criminals and helps to solve crime. The charity does this by offering members of the public a secure, anonymous way to pass on crucial information about crimes to the Police, helping to make your community safer.

You can contact Crimestoppers with information about crime on the 24/7 hotline 0800 555 111 or via the charity’s website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.  In the 23 years that Crimestoppers has been running no one has ever been identified. By contacting Crimestoppers you can be safe in the knowledge that you’ll never have to go to court and you’ll never have to give a statement to the Police.

As a national charity Crimestoppers has 44 regional volunteer committees across the UK who work to make your community safer. To find out about Crimestoppers’ work in your area you can go to the regional pages of the website or you can contact Ann Scott, Crimestoppers’ East of England Regional Manager through the charity’s central office on 020 8835 3700.

Monthly Column by

Sector Inspector Matt Snow

As Christmas approaches I’d like to take the opportunity to give some crime prevention advice. Don’t make it easy for someone to steal from your home.

Ensure all doors and windows are locked. After dark make it look like someone’s at home, by leaving lights on, and a radio playing. If you’re going away for a period of time over the festive period cancel any milk or paper deliveries, ask a neighbour to check on your property, and use a timing switch on lights around the house. Try not to position your Christmas tree right by a window, so that it doesn’t attract attention to presents from anyone looking in. It’s best not to put any presents under the tree too long before Christmas, and if possible wait until Christmas Eve. The longer they’re on display the more the opportunity is for a burglary to take place.

Although I’m giving you this advice, please remember this is one of the safest places to live in Peterborough. Burglaries on the sector are currently down 15.8% year to date, when compared with the same period last year – that’s 30 less victims of burglary in the area.

I hope you all have a good Christmas, and I will write again in the New Year.

Thanks
Matt

Hampton Gaming Night

The initiative was set up by PCSO Matt Lauch and PCSO Mohammed Haleem and is aimed at reducing the anti-social behaviour inside the Centre as the colder months draw in. Typically, this is a location where teens like to hang out. The gaming nights are aimed at 12 to 17 year olds and have attracted many local teens.

After great success prior to Christmas and support from local businesses, Hampton Gaming Night has returned.  Numerous prizes were given out in the last sessions and this will continue.  Serpentine Green will be contributing gift vouchers in the coming nights and other prizes are in the pipeline.  Tournaments will continue and we hope to attract the local teens throughout the coming months.

The location is the same, adjacent to Serpentine Green, and the dates are as below.

Friday 10th 18:00 – 20:00
